THE PROJECT
The team endeavours to understand how we can utilise Functional AgroBiodiversity to restore beneficial ecosystem services to agricultural landscapes and enhance the resilience of agroecosystems in a changing world.
|
What is Functional AgroBiodiversity (FAB)?Functional agrobiodiversity is the diversity of living organisms within agricultural landscapes that perform important roles such as pollination and pest control. These ecosystem services contribute to the functioning of the ecosystem and support sustainable agricultural production.
|
Summary
The use of pesticides and chemical-intensive farming systems are causing bees and other vital ecosystem service-providing insects to die at alarming rates worldwide. These insects are essential for
our food crops. Enhancing biodiversity is one way to mitigate the loss of insect diversity. We aims to integrate the concept of Functional AgroBiodiversity to restore key ecosystem services such as pollination and crop pest suppression to agricultural landscape and to ensure the resilience of agricultural systems in a changing world. |
